Active Missionaries and Ministries

David and Josie Skavdahl

Bongolo, Gabon  -  Christian Health Service Corps

Drs. David and Josie Skavdahl have wanted to serve in resource-poor medical settings since they met.  After completing medical training, they adopted 4 children to join this adventure: Noa, Maria, Micah, and Anica.  They now live, work, and play at Bongolo Hospital in Gabon, west Africa.

David is operating and training the next generation of Christian African surgeons.  Josie is training new midwives and taking care of newborns.  They are grateful to be a part of Bongolo Hospital, to see God glorified as people are healed, saved, equipped, and sent.

The Root Cellar

Portland, ME

Empowering, uniting, and transforming the cities of Lewiston and Portland, Maine.
Our mission is to engage volunteers and neighbors to cultivate social, economic and spiritual wholeness as part of God’s Kingdom. We are proud to work alongside our neighbors, responding together to needs and transforming our cities through declaring and demonstrating the Way of Jesus.

Safe Families For Children

Portland, ME

As part of a larger national organization, the Safe Families for Children team at Missio Dei seeks to bring the church and Portland community together to keep children safe and families together. Safe Families for Children is rooted in faith, fueled by radical hospitality, disruptive generosity, and intentional compassion, to build a network of caring and compassionate volunteers to support families facing social isolation. Our goal is to support and strengthen families, prevent child abuse and neglect, and reduce the number of children unnecessarily entering the child welfare system.

Joe Sastic

Portland, ME  -  Cru and Lifelines

Cru is a Christian ministry passionate about connecting people with Jesus Christ on college campuses all across the world.  The team in Southern Maine currently serves students at USM, UNE, and SMCC.

Through Lifelines, we take students across the Northeast rock climbing, whitewater rafting, sea kayaking, hiking, paddle boarding, and camping. While we unplug in nature, we create authentic community through shared experience in order to grow in our faith, develop leadership skills, and learn how to live in grace & truth.

YoungLife

Portland, ME

Young Life leaders enter the world of adolescents to build authentic friendships with them in the hopes of being able to invite them to be life-long followers of Jesus Christ. Young Life Casco Bay encompasses the communities of Portland to Freeport and everywhere in between, including: Westbrook, Falmouth, Cumberland, and Yarmouth.  Currently there is ministry for both middle and high school students.

Marc and Shauna Breglio

Portland, ME  -  Skiers and Snowboarders For Christ

The ski and snowboard culture is spiritually dark and the effects of the community’s embrace of sin is evidenced in high substance abuse and addiction rates, mental health crises, disjointed transient communities and heartbreaking suicide rates. We want to see the light of Jesus changing lives and making communities whole! SFC Maine seeks to be a light to the snowboard and ski culture of Maine. We are a community of Christian believers from across the state who are obsessed with shredding snow. We are an eclectic crew who enjoys everything from lapping the park, edging cord, reaching mock speed, jibbing Portland or shredding powdah (and eating chowdah).
